How will you measure your life? A post about Clayton Christensen

I wanted to write about professor Clayton Christensen since he passed away last January. Truth to be told, I didn’t know about him, his papers, and his books until recently.

At first, I thought about writing about disruptive innovation, and I was looking to disruptive business models related to retail. But finally I decided to split it, the post was way too large.

In this post I will focus on the person, a brief view of his works, and last years with his essay-article-book “How will you measure your life”. I hope you’ll find it as interesting as I did when I first read that article.

Who was Clayton Christensen?

Applying the 20/20/20 formula

In the words of Robin Sharma: The way you start your day powerfully shapes how productively you live it. This is the purpose of the 20/20/20 formula, to improve your productivity by applying this new morning routine, starting the day with exercise, contemplation, and learning.

This formula is included on his successful best-selling book The 5AM Club.

This secret formula is the result of studying the mindset and habits of the great minds, leaders, artists, scientists, and in general great performers.

20/20/20, what is this about?

Basically, Robin Sharma, in his book, wants to share with us that the “great geniuses and business titans” wake up earlier to mastery their productivity by owning their morning.

The entrepreneurial gene: Tony Hsieh’s path to deliver happiness

It was the year 2011, on a trip across the states, when I bought Tony Hsieh‘s book Delivering Happiness at the airport, don’t remember if it was LAX or Las Vegas. It was during my honeymoon trip.

At that time I already know Tony’s profile as Zappos CEO, about its Amazon acquisition, and about the customer experience excellence that Tony and his mates built. I remember that at Privalia, an interim CTO started talking to us about something called “customer-centricity” around the year 2010.

But I didn’t know his story before Zappos, how did he get there, his way to success. This is what this post is about, the evolution of the person, from his early days to his … Read the rest!

The magic of memorizing: Chain-link method

Today’s post will be a bit different. I will share a recent experience with Jim Kwik‘s Superbrain course at Mindvalley. It is about memorizing using the chain-link method.

Why I am sharing this? Because I found it cool! It is very easy to learn, it really works, and maybe could be useful in the future, who knows.

Also it is said that when you share it, when you tech it, you learn it twice.

Let’s start first with a little challenge…

Try to learn those words. Only memorizing, not writing. In order.

  1. Fire hydrant
  2. Ballon
  3. Batteries
  4. Barrel
  5. Board
  6. Diamond
  7. Sir Lancelot
  8. Mask
  9. Toothpaste
  10. Sign

Now, without any trick, try to remember them in order. Write them, compare, … Read the rest!

Are you fired up? Ready to go!

Last Monday I was shown Obama’s “Fired up, ready to go” speech in a corporate meeting. It was at the end of the meeting, as a motivational video.

Now I know that it wasn’t the original video, it was Obama retelling the story doing campaign for Hillary Clinton. This is the video, and I recommend you to see it:

There’s another previous video where he tells the story of “Fired Up! Ready to Go!”, from his final rally in 2012.

If you don’t want to enjoy the video, this is the original story: In June 2007, then-Senator Barack Obama visited the small town of Greenwood, South Carolina, as part of his campaign efforts. When he arrived at the town’s … Read the rest!
